Spellcheck run whenever i type letter N 1

I'm using Windows XP Pro and Ms Office 2003, recently whenever i use any office software like word ,excel or powerpoint and whenever i type letter N then spellcheck is invoked automaticall and that letter does not appear. Letter N acts like it is hotkey for that spellcheck.

For Word, check Tools > Auto-Correct Options. It's probably got the rule established.

Thanks Madawc for your reply, but after trying what you have suggested still the problem is there and now when i try other letters also have the same problem like when i type z then help is invoked, v find and replace is invoked, m sellect all the text if you have any, so i can not use those alphabets now on their intended purpose.

Have you tried the "Detect and Repair" option available in the Help Menu?

Sounds like the keyboard is wrongly set up. Or you've got malware, some sort of virus. Use Search to check for existing advice on the topics.

I know this sounds weird, but I can assure this happened to me.

Chechk you're not pressint Alt or Ctrl, maybe your keyboard is sensible or any of that keys is broken.

I would also check you haven't inadvertantly pressed the Alt Gr key as this can cause those types of issues.

I have not press any of those keys, it has something to do with laptop itself. I have unistall office and formated the hard disk but when i install the programs again the problem is still there, this is real confusing.

Check out spyware, malware, virus protection. If you haven't installed any protection you are almost certain to have picked some up. Clearing down won't work because there is so much trash being distributed.

Have you tried plugging in an external keyboard to see if you get the same result?

I wonder if somehow the shortcut key to the spellcheck function has been altered. You can do this deliberately by going to tools/customize and then clicking on the keyboard button at the bottom of the dialog box. Rather than look for what has been done I would delete the normal.dot file which holds these configs. When word opens again it will use the default normal.dot file.

I wonder if there is not something physically wrong with your keyboard. plug in an external or try the on screen keyboard (type osk at the run command). if "N" works I would say replace the keyboard.

"Z" is below F1 which is help, "V" is below F5 which is find and replace, "N" is below F7 which is Spell check.

Your posts indicate that you only experience this keyboard problem in MS Office and not in other normal Windows and XP applications, is this a correct assumption?

Have you installed the recent Office SP2 and did the problem start after that? If you haven't checked for recent Office updates, it is something you could try?
