OK - I know I'm in the wrong place, but I thought that some Access guru might be able to suggest a solution to a WORD issue.

I have been presented with some WORD documents to be used as Reports for school kids. Since they have to be filled in by teachers, there are two problems: 1). Teachers can't be trusted not to mess up the layouts 2).Teachers can't spell.
The solutions to these problems seem to be mutually exclusive!

1) has been overcome by creating the documents as forms in protected documents - but this disables the Spell Checker.
Removing protection after the form has been completed clears the form.
2) is not a problem until 1) is addressed!

Anybody know how to meet both requirements??

When you protect the document all fields are cleared. You need to protect via VBA like this

ActiveDocument.ProtectType:=wdAllowOnlyFormFields,NoReset:=True

Try searching Microsoft.com for

WD2000: How to Retain Information Typed into a Form Field When You Protect a Form (Q191028)

I am no VBA guru but there is a VBA forum if your still stuck

Neil,
Many thanks, I'd guessed there might be a way using VB, but my knowledge can be put on a pin head & still leave room for the bible!
And thanks for that MS reference - I'd searched the KB but obviously didn't use the right keywords.
Now let's try it!!
