Indesign CS2 on Mac OSX crashes each time I spellcheck a document. Any ideas as to why?

The most common cause of booboos with Adobe apps is corrupted preferences. Spell check has preference settings. Try quitting ID and going to hard drive/user/library/prefernces. Trash "com.adobe.InDesign.plist" and relaunch ID. See if that fixes the problem.

Thanks for input but no change, still bombs out but only indesign, system doesn't crash!

Ok, here's another possible cause - bad font caches. Go to finder/Find and look for "adobefnt". In Find, use "Contains" for the search parameter.

You'll get results that list things like adobe07fnt.lst or adobefnt.lst. Trash everything that had the ".lst" extension. OSX creates caches of fonts so that, it a program crashes etc, only the cache of the font can get wrecked as opposed to the font file. You should actually clear all font caches, not jsut Adobe, on a periodic basis. The easiest way to do this is to go to versiontracker.com and search for Font Finagler. Pay the tiny shareware fee and run it to clear all font caches - except the adobe ones - on your machine. This can save headaches with corrupted caches.

If all else fails you can reinstall. Just make sure that you not only trash the Indesign folder but also anything in Preferences related to Indesign before reinstalling.

Well that worked then. Fantastic. Will bare in mind font caches for future use. Many thanks
