After a rather dissapointing purchase of a transtalk 9031, I have been considering upgrading my wireless phone to a spectralink. However, unlike with the transtalk series, I am fairly unfamiliar with the spectralink product line. What are the most basic, and least expensive components for a minimum 2 phone spectralink system on a merlin legend? How do the phones interface into the system? Which phones should I use?

Thanks

The 9030 and 9031 were problematic TransTalks - but the 9040 is a pretty reliable TransTalk with excellent range and functionality. Why not consider a 9040 instead of the Spectralink?

That is a very good idea. What attracts me even more to the 9040 is that the radio module can handle two phones, and the handset doesnt need to match the module. And, the transition from 9031 to 9040 shouldn't be very smooth since both phones are very similar.

Thank you very much

The only issue with the 9040 is that you need to hook it up to a Magix TDL card to get Caller ID. But, if Caller ID is not that important to you - I think it is a great phone with 900 ft+ range.

Although there was a PCN that stated you should not use the 9040 transtalk as a direct replacemant for the 9031. Meaning that if you are having range problems with the 9031, the 9040 will not fix that issue. As far as I am aware, Spectralink is the only wireless solution that will guarentee their product. If they sell it and it doesn't work, they will pay to have it fixed. Good luck

Spectralink would be my first choice. I have done over 30 installations of the spectralinks on the Merlin Magix. Also have done over 10 spectralink installation for the Nortel Norstar. 10 replacement installation of the transtalk 9040 or 9031 for the spectralink wireless. Spectralinks is by far the easiest and most reliable wireless system.

OK, now I am seeing something I know not about.

Does this Spectralink gizmo work with Magix/Legend?

Yes it will work with the Legend/Magix.

The spectralink wireless phones will used 1 port (per wireless phone) off your MLX408 digital card. If you go to avaya.com you should beable to download the installation and operation guide. The legend/magix will use link150 used for 4 wire PBX/Key. You can also ask for a analog version, I beleive spectralink still supports them.

What's the range of the Spectralink compared to a TransTalk 9040? I get about 1 1/2 blocks around my building (3 stories) - probably more than the quoted 900 ft. How does the cost compare?

Sorry to tell you this the cost of the spectralink wireless system is no way cheap, you will need the MCU, basestation, wireless phones w/batteries and charger, cables and 66/110blocks. The quote I got for my phone lab was $2750. A single MCU can cover between 5000-50,000 square feet. Additional MCUs up to 4 can be linked to extend the the coverage. I like the spectralinks due mostly to the ease of troubleshooting and maintence. The digital spectrum is 902-928mhz.
