I know what the problem is, just can't solve it.[sad]
I bought a new tower, but kept my old Compaq 17" screen & speakers. Quality speakers (JBL Pro's) but output from sound card needs amplification. HOW ? New powered & amplified speakers ?, Amp between output jack & speakers? D/L software fix ?
Base use would be Cd's while I work and speakerphone. Any ideas peeps?
Thankx

I will say this. Don't use an amp between the output and speakers. PC speakers aren't rated to accept much power and you'll blow them.

Is the sound lower than it was on your old PC, or are you just looking for more??

Other than installing an older type soundcard, i.e. one with a decent on-board amplifier, you will probably need to go for a new set of powered speakers. You could connect an amplifier between soundcard output and original speakers, but like OnlineIT says, you'd need to carefully watch output power otherwise distortion and ultimate failure will surely follow. You might even blow your amp if the speaker impedance isn't right!

ROGER - GØAOZ.

Thanx folks. I thought as much, but it was worth asking. Soooo.. if I take the sound card (old fashioned as it may be ROGER) out of the Win98 box and install it in new 2000 box, update driver etc, I may get out of this for nix? (crossing fingers)

Belay that!! Did I mention that my old PC was a Compaq? it is, so everyone knows the sound card is built into the motherboard Right ?
Ok so I buy a set of powered speakers. Thanks anyway, it is morning here in Oz. [morning]
