I'm trying to connect a Catalyst 3524XL-PWR-EN to a Dell PowerConnect 3448P.

When I bring up the Catalyst 3524XL-PWR-EN I get the following notice:

00:00:22: %SPANTREE-2-RECV_PVID_ERR:
Received BPDU with inconsistent peer vlan id 115 on GigabitEthernet0/2 on vlan 1
.
00:00:22: %SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_PVID_PEER: Blocking GigabitEthernet0/2 on vlan 115.

Inconsistent peer vlan.
00:00:22: %SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_PVID_LOCAL: Blocking GigabitEthernet0/2 on vlan 1.
Inconsistent local vlan.

Also when I bring up the Catalyst 3524XL-PWR-EN it causes my network on VLAN 115 to go down.

Does anyone know why this may happen?

Thanks

Error Message

%SPANTREE-2-RECV_PVID_ERR : Received BPDU with inconsistent peer vlan id [dec] on [chars] [chars].

Explanation The specified interface has received an SSTP BPDU that is tagged with a VLAN ID that does not match the VLAN ID on which the BPDU was received. This condition occurs when the native VLAN is not consistently configured on both ends of a 802.1Q trunk.

Recommended Action Verify that the configuration of the native VLAN ID is consistent on the interfaces on each end of the 802.1Q trunk connection. Once this inconsistency is corrected, spanning tree will automatically unblock the interfaces as appropriate.

Is there a way to no use spanning tree and avoid it from trying to block the port. I have both switches set for the same VLANs and after six hours I keep making the same changes and nothing seems to work.

Hold on to your shorts if someone loops 2 ports if you shut off spanning tree . It will bring the network to its knees .

They are both configured as trunks and they are both on the same native VLAN but I still get the same block message.

For whatever reason when I bring the switch up and when I'm using spanning tree the network is brought down so I guess I can try using it without spanning tree. Can't get any worse.

i know i have seen this before between cisco and nortel but don't remember the solution. what is your native vlan? if it is not 1, can you change it to 1? i think it has to due with cisco running pvst+ and 802.1d together. i am still reading more...i dont have a non-cisco switch to test :)
