I have VERITAS NetBackup 5.1 on my Windows platform. I use DAT tapes (40/80) DAT tapes for my backups. I have a retention period of 1day though I keep tapes for 3days before I overwrite. I have different tapes for each days backup. I dont have robotic library or auto-loader for backups. Well someday I will get one.

Currently I always have challenges maintaining the tapes during backup. When backups are initially, it backs up to the first tape and it will request for another tape. Most times it requests for the previous day last tape when actually I wish to backup to different tapes. How do I overcome this issue using my standalone DAT tape drive?

Use separate volume pools for each day

Just because the VERITAS documentation states a certain thing does not make it a fact and thats the truth

Stumpr,

Do you mean I should use separate volume pool and separate policies to backup same data each day? Would that be very clumsy? Separate policy, separate volume pool to backup same data each day?

within the same policy..

create a schedule called Monday and override policy volume pool with a volume pool called Monday.

create a schedule called Tuesday and override policy volume pool with a volume pool called Tuesday.

create a schedule called Wednesday and override policy volume pool with a volume pool called Wednesday.

etc.....

We don't do that we just put erased tapes in each day. Seems to work fine for us.
