we have a brand new server running exchange. The bad mail folder is filling up with files. The files come in groups of three .bad .bdp .bdr and literally thousands of these are pouring into the server causing it to fill up and fall over. Is this someone spamming us to death or some sort of denial of servcie attack. We need urgent help.

Thanks in advance

Open a few of them up and see what the destination address is. That'll give you a starting point to see if they're spamming you or trying to relay through you.

The server was being used as an open relay. Re-configured the smtp protocol and all is ok
