Any one here has a good SPAM blocking software on his Exchange box that he/she recommends??

I am about to buy Sophos' spam software. I have heard really good reports on it. I currently use FTGATE and it is poor....

Thanks
have ou tried GFI?

They have a whole bunch of softwares...I heard they are pretty good

Ironport is a very good product! It blocks spam by dropping connections based on IP and senderbased reputation. This along with Brightmail and Sophos in one box.

If you're looking for an Enterprise solution check out Vircom's Modus Gate. We've had it inplace two years and it does a remarkable job. Quarentines on average 6000 SPAM messages a day. Very low false positive rate as well.

A large company I used to work for used Mail Marshall. They liked it a lot.

Does anyone use the MS version of a spam filter? I forget the name.

I can vouch for GFI mail esentials. I have it installed in 3 offices and i'm happy with it. network size is less than 100 at each site.

You get a 60 day free trial too!

I have to totally dis-agree with ANYONE that says the GFI product is worth a hoot. I ran the demo and was very displeased with it. I only have 600 mail enabled users, I can't imagine if I had more. With GFI EVERYTHING was global. I couldn't specify certain settings for certain users. Everything was configured at the server. Why not give the users some control over what they want blocked and not blocked out of their mailboxes.

I ran GFI for about 10 days and then found myself un-installing it. I then tried Sunbelt Software's IHateSpam for Servers and ordered it. Over a year later, I still love it. If you don't believe me, they too offer a FREE demo.

A free demo doesn't mean squat. The quality of the program/service/support/updates is what really matters.

I know I was a bit hateful, but I really don't like the GFI program.

I have a couple of reputable DNS blacklists set up in Exchange 2003. Then once mail comes into our domain we are using the Symantec anti-spam feature that came with the Exchange 2003 e-mail virus scanner package. It does ok coupled with the DNS blacklist. By itself it didn't do so great. But ayway... If you are using Exchange 2003 I'd research some public DNS blacklists... or subscription services to those that best suite your needs.

I'm using as one of my DNSBLs. Again. Research them before you use a public DNSBL to make sure the DNSBL best suites your needs.

We've recently implemented an IronPort C30 appliance for antiSPAM (BrightMAIL) and anti-virus (Sophos). In addition, we have McAfee Virus Scan (server) and GroupShield (info store) on the Exchange 2003 server. IronPort catches 98% of the SPAM and viruses so our Exchange server has plenty of room to breathe. We have approximately 2000 mailboxes and this seems to work very well for us.

We also looked at MAPS RBL+ at This product seemed to work well with a lesser appliance like the McAfee appliance.
