Could you advise me on the maximum setting I can set the "max memory" configuration ? Can I also set the shmmax to full server RAM ? Our Sys Admin advises that the shmmax should be half of hardware memory and the database memory another half of shmmax.

We are running ASE 12.5 on SUN Solaris with 2 gig RAM.

Physical Memory Size: 2048 megabytes
shmmax=1048576000 (can I increase this ?)

sp_configure Memory used Run value (2k pages)
max memory 441574 220787
tot logic. mem 441062 220531
tot phy. mem 427976 213998

Our default data cache is 200mb (can I increase this ?)
Cache Memory: 213.1191
Proc Cache Memory: 56.2871

Thanks

You need to have enough for OS level functions to run. If you isolate your dataserver to its own box with no other users you can probably get away with using more ram for the dataserver.

We have some boxes that only have the dataservers on them. For our purposes we use 1.5GB of ram for the dataserver and 500MB for the OS. I still see that the os is not taxed very much and I could probably increase the amount of ram the dataserver uses if i chose to.
