I recently ran SP4 on our Exchg 5.5 SP3 server. During the update, I had to skip several DLLs that could not be updated eg
exchange\bin:
MDBPERF.DLL
MTAPERF.DLL
PERFDSA.DLL
MSESPERF.DLL
and
winnt4\system32:
emsndb32.dll
emsui32.dll

When I did this before I managed to get them from a working upgrade. Is it possible to extract these from the SP4 and apply them manually?

Paul

not sure, but u should have stopped all MS Exchange services before running the SP4... maybe?

Thanks, but did this manually. The SP will stop them anyway, but I have seen this failure to update some of the ..perf..dlls before. There is a way of extracting individual file from a .cab file...is there a similar method of getting at the spxxxx.exe file??

Have a look if your Antivirus Service is still runing and if there is a process from AV which is not correctly stopped and kill it. I had the same problems with SP4 as you and solved it that way.

I had the same problem with SP4. What I did was find each file when the error popped up. I renamed the file to *.old and then went back to setup and hit retry. It worked like a champ. Bob

I also have just come across this problem myself.
After installing OWA i needed to reinstall sp4 and got the same errors.
renaming the .dll files to *.old worked a treat..

thanks
