So is it adviseable to install this update .. I have never installed an update of ArcServe without having all kinds of problems .. I am running ArcServe 2000 on NT4 SP6a
So....... you updated the Lotus Notes agent then and it crashed the server. Interesting, did you install the new updated NA version or the BAOF version? How did it "destroy" the server?
(I am picturing a server after a grenade has been tossed into it's case)
Is this post of SP4 safe? Just reloaded a new server (W2KAS) with Arcserve 2000 thru SP3. Will be bringing it online shortly and wanted to make sure as much as possible that it would work. Or is it better to wait awhile since SP3 seems to work fine.
kntry4ever,
Hrm.... I would advise not to install it yet. Work off of sp3 for a couple of months. Wait for the dust to clear so that we can see exactly whats going on with the SP. Anyway thats my advice, it is your decision whether or not to take it.
SP4 is good news for one user (me). I reluctantly had to risk it because of unresolved problems with SP3+patches setup. And it worked! It has cured the swamp of "sharing violations" which consistently prevented me backing up an apparently random 3% of my files since I installed sp3.
And I can now enumerate databases through the Exchange Agent (having applied sp4 to the agent). So, could this be the start of a stable version?? Maybe too late as I'd already decided to give up on the pig and have bought a copy of Veritas for evaluation.
We where having problems with out Exchange2000 server backing up large attachments app 55mb in size. The Job would just stop. CA advised reinstalling the exchange agent and applying SP4. We applied Arcserve2000 SP4 to our 4 servers. All servers have Arcserve ADV, Open-file option, Tape Library option and SAN option.
All servers are W2K SP2. AD is in mixed mode.
Two servers are Active directory (The File&Print and Exchange2000 SP2).
One hour after we last rebooted the servers all users where locked out. Nobody could login on the LAN. We found we could browse the non-AD servers but not the AD servers. We rebooted and tried again. Same result as before after 20min. It seems when users (more than two) start using the AD servers all will get locked out. We have rebooted all servers and set Arcserve services to manual and did not start them. Our users are working fine. Note: We ran the SAN and Tape engine on the F&P AD server as it’s the master Arcserve server over night. The two non-AD servers backed up OK. Users logged-in in the morning OK. One hour after users logged in all where locked out until we rebooted again.
On all servers we are running Norton/Symantec anti virus corporate edition 7.6 for 6 months.
Any body jot a fix before I reinstall Arcserve and start again!
Hi Eamo,
If your going to install ARCserve again, could you maybe install it up to sp3 and see if your systems are stable? Do you have any feelings or hunches on what could be locking out the users from AD? Are there any issues listed in the event viewer or anything?
Thanks, would be good to know if we are on the trail of a possible known bug for sp4.
Update:
I have two sites with similar issues where all users get locked-out of the domain. PC’s currently logged in would lockup and need to be powered off. You can see shares on the faulty server from other servers but cannot open them. Faulty server becomes unstable and needs to be rebooted. You can stop the Arcserve services and most others except the Norton server service. There are no entries in the event log on either site.
Site 1:
All servers have Arcserve ADV, Open-file option, Tape Library option and SAN option. All servers have W2K-SP2. AD is in mixed mode. Two servers are Active directory (The File & Print and Exchange2000 SP2).
On all servers we are running Norton/Symantec anti virus corporate edition 7.6 for 6 months and Arcserve SP3.
The F&P server is the Norton deployment (Primary server).
Fault:
We applied Arcserve SP4 to all four servers. Note: We started the SAN and Tape engine on the F&P AD server as it's the master Arcserve server over night along with the Norton server service. The two non-AD servers backed up OK. Users logged-in in the morning OK. One hour after users logged in all where locked out until we rebooted again.
If we start Norton/Symantec anti virus corporate edition 7.6 and stop Arcserve users work OK.
If we start Arcserve and stop Norton/Symantec anti virus corporate edition 7.6 users work OK.
If we start the two together all users get locked out and PC’s + Server need rebooting.
Note: The servers have not been rebooted for 3 weeks and perhaps the bug was already there. (ie. Norton/Symantec anti virus corporate edition 7.6 doing its live-update automatically.)
Site 2:
Single NT4 server with SP6a128bit. Arcserve2000 WKG, Open-file Agent. Arcserve Sp3 and post SP3 (excluding SP4 or post SP4).
Fault:
When we loaded Norton/Symantec anti virus corporate edition 7.6 and live-update all users got locked out. Same symptoms as site 1.
Conclusion: Compatibly with Norton/Symantec anti virus corporate edition 7.6 (after running full live-update.) and Arcserve2000 (with SP3 + Post SP3 or SP4).
Will keep up posted when i find a fix.
I haven't reinstalled Arcserve yet!!
Eamo
I don't think the issue is with norton specifically, I would say it may be anti-virus in general, BUT then I would assume a whole heap of people would be having this error instead of just yourself so far. Interesting. Hopefully if anyone else has the same issue they'll post it and we'll keep an eye out for it.
I am thinking of installing ARCServe 2000 SP4, is this a good idea, or is this a really bad one. Has anyone here has any problems. As this seem to be the best place the get support of CA products, I thought I would check if anyone has had any issues with it.
An update to the Nav 7.60 and Arcserve2000 SP4 Compatibly.
I applied Nav 7.61b37b (160mb download) and all is working ok. (well allmost. Must apply QO20824,QO19351,QO19741,QO19666, QO19353,QO19352 and the DRSP4 fix.)
I have been experiencing the same issue as Eamo.
Situation:
5 different servers/sites(NT4 SP6a, Exchange 5.5, Arcserve 2000 - SP4 NAV CE v7.6)
The servers normally failed around 11.30 in the morning and about 3.30 in the afternoon. I tried rebuilding a server and only installing SP3 but somehow, SP4 must have got back during a data restore.
The problem has now dis-appeared as we have removed all traces of AS2000 and SP4 then re-installed to SP3
I've installed SP4 on a w2k box running Arcserve 2000 and yes it did fix a couple of issues but created another issue for me. My suggestion is if you don't need to fix anything I would hold out on installing it.
Hi All,
In win2k servers running ADS, for arcserve system account, you need to give rights as under..
Domain controller security policy- Act as part of O/S, log on locally, log on as a service
Domain security policy-act as part of O/S, log on as a service
Local security policy-all three as in DSCP
and leave all the options as default..
This will prevent locking of the accounts in a LAN...
hope it helps..
Thanks just check it man
