The images on my RIS server are from an SP2 disk. I have downloaded and extracted SP3 and would like to crate a new image based on SP3. When I browse to the SP3/i386 directory and try to add it as an image I get an error that states: A file that is needed was not found.....May not be a valid Professional Source.......Verify the path.

I cannot use RIPrep from a workstation upgraded to SP3 to create a new image since the image is a SP2 image.

Is there a way to add an SP3 image?

Thanks in advance.

You'll need to preform a "Slipstream" of the 2K cd image.

I have found that doing this from the C: drive works best. Once completed you can move the files back to your RIS folder.

1 create a folder on c:\ call it what you want. Create Sub folders: SP3, SP3Extract, I386
2 move the SP3 to a sub folder in your c:\folder\SP3
3 Extract the SP3 using the command line W2ksp3.exe /x
You'll be promted for a folder location - specify C:\folder\SP3extract
4 Move your CD Image to c:\folder\I386
5 In c:\folder\SP3extract run the cmd line update.exe -s:C:\folder\I386

It will update your CD Image. Once complete move the CD Image back to your RIS partician and you can again make images with SP3 slipstreamed into it. Delete the c:\folder.

Good luck.

In step 4 when you say move the CD image to c:\folder\I386 I assume you are talking about the i386 directory from the SP2 cd not the i386 created from the extract?

Also, In step 5 I'll assume that the update.exe -s will propt for the location to slipstream into?

Correct, not the extracted I386 folder. In step 4 you should move the cd image created as the base image for RIS. It is the I386 folder found in \\Remoteinstall\Setup\English\images\CDimage....copy that to the c:\folder\I386

Step 5 command line use the -s:C:\folder\I386 and it should find your cd image folder.

The update.exe is in the c:\folder\SP3Extract\....I386.

If you get errors, let me know. Hewissa
