I installed SP4 rebooted into this error.
Spoolsv.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure Entry Point GetPrinterA could not be located in the Dynamic Link Library spoolss.dll
I have the same error and I am trying to figure out what it is. When I check the Event Viewer and it logs this event:
Event ID:61
WMI ADAP was unable to process the Spooler performance
libary due to a time viloation in the collect function. I
followed the Knowledge Base Article-266416 on how to
rectify this issue but it still have the error.
Do you have the same error in the Event Viewer?
Before this install of SP4 I never had this error and if you
uninstall SP4 the error does not happen.
Jebby, It would be greatly appreciated if you do find a fix for it please post it and I will do the same.
When you downloaded SP4, Did you go on Windows Updates to download it or Did you download it from the support website? If you downloaded from the support website, What feature did you select (Express or Network)?
I just want to figure out if we downloaded it the same way.
If the key is there, then stop the SPOOLER service, highlight the key, goto the Registry menu entry and select "Export Registry ..". Select to save as type "Win9X ...", pick a name and location that you will remember and save it. Now, delete the key in Regedit and restart the SPOOLER.
It appears to be a known problem with some HP printer drivers and/or HP Jet Admin.
Was this a new WIN2K install or an upgrade from WinNT ??
Is this an HP printer that you are having problems with ??
Are you printing locally or to a network printer??

Everyday the Computer Gods pick one person to be "it". Maybe, today is your day !!
My workstation is a Win 2000 machine. It has been up and running for months now and it was a fresh load not an upgrade. I do print to 2 network printers a HP Laser Jet 4 and HP Color Laser 4550.
I looked in the registry and did not find that string. I did find the following:
Default Reg_sz (no set value)
Driver Reg_sz HPBMMON.DLL
EOJTIMEOUT REG_ DWORD 0x0000ea60(60000)
You may want to try searching for HPBMMON.DLL first. Make sure that you only have one copy, then right-click, goto properties and note the version number.
Then check in "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. You may see HP.. software installed. Note what it is and remove it. Reboot and delete the Printers. Reboot again. Now, check to see if HPBMMON.DLL has been deleted. If not, rename it to HPBMMON.OLD, export the registry key, then delete the driver value.
Now, reinstall the LJ4 software and add the printer. Repeat for the 4550.
Sounds like a lot of work !!. Well, it is, but .. HP make very nice printers, but throw all manner of DLL's and Drivers into the System directories which hook into Windows.
<rant>
Now we throw in a MS service pack where some of the spooler code was most likely rewritten, since the "slow shutdown" problem has gone, and the end result is an error message that MS will blame on HP and HP will ...

IT WORKED! Thank you for all your help Ian. You were great!!
Here are the steps I took as per your advice:
1. I uninstalled SP4
2. Deleted the printers.
3. Exported the String Value and named it HPBMMOND.OLD
4. Deleted the string in the Registry.
5. Download Drivers and rebooted.
6. Loaded the driver
7. Rebooted
8. Installed Windows 2000 SP4 Network Edition
9. Rebooted.
