Source IP address used by W2k Server with Multiple IPs on Interface

Anyone know for sure how a Windows server (w2k,XP) behaves when a single nic is configured with say 3 IPs on the same subnet. For example 10.10.10.1, 10.10.10.2, 10.10.10.3. If the server generates a request (telnet, ping, something) will the source IP always be 10.10.10.1 or how does it determine?

It determine's what source IP to use depending on the routing table. Post it using the netstat -r command for analysis.

I am sure that you will have a primary IP address and that the remaining addresses would be the secondaries. I assume that it would always use 10.10.10.1 to initiate any traffic it sends out, however it would respond on the IP address that it receives a request on (ie file sharing etc).

Why are you having the same subnets on the nic?

The route table shows that it would use 10.1.100.174 to initiate connections, however, as SimonDavies pointed out, traffic arriving at a different IP would be responded to by that IP, not the 100.174 address.
