Sound stop() problem - am I the only one?

I've been using a short sound to signal a move between a group of animations, but I find that when I publish to the flash player (.exe) the animation pauses when the sound stops.

This happens if the sound is left to run to the end or if it is stopped using sound.stop();. It also happens if the sound is placed on the main time line, or if it's attached or played dynamically.

But when I use Test Movie everything works fine, which is really perverse!!

I'm happy to post an .fla which demonstrates the problem.

Can anyone help? Has anyone had the same problem? I haven't been able to find anything about this on the web or FAQs.

Many thanks for any help...

Thanks for the reply.

I've zipped it (SoundProblem.zip) and stuck it on a web page at:

What happens is this: If I use Test Movie it all works fine - you can click the button and the sound plays and the animation moves. But, if I publish it to an .exe (preview to the Projector) and click PLAY the sound plays fine, but when it finishes the animation pauses for a moment. Sometimes it doesn't happen straight away, but after the fith click, say.

It is driving me mad!!

Any help or even just confirming that it's happening would be MUCH appreciated....

I published the file as a projector and played it several times - it did glitch once but just for a fraction of a second and only when I went really mad clicking repeatedly. I couldn't get it to repeat that behaviour.

There's nothing worse than trying to track down an intermittent problem. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Thanks ever so much for doing that....

I'm guessing that something weird happens when I publish it on my machine, which may be my version of Flash or some settings. But at least I won't have to change the code!

If you can be bothered I've put my version of the .exe up on the same page, and it would be interesting to know if you see the stalling in that - for me it happens just about 1 second after the button press (i.e. when the sound stops, but only if you haven't pressed the button again).

Thanks again and I'll keep experimenting!

Incidently - what version of Flash and Player are you on?

Hmmm. Your version glitches on my machine just the way you described, but the when I publish your fla again, the projector works fine.

If it helps: Flash MX, latest player (revision 79, I think) although that shouldn't matter with a projector, Win2000, Pentium 4 1.4GHz, 644MB RAM.

Oh, well - at least I'm not going completely bonkers!

Thanks ever so much for your help.

I'm still running on 98, but I don't think that's the problem, cause other people's stuff plays fine. Something must be happening as my version of Flash (MX as well: 6.0 r25) creates the projector file.

I'm going to reinstall the software. If you hear from me again it will be because I've got it sussed!

Thanks again.

A re-install of MX appears to have cured the problem, although I don't know if that's because the player reverted to the older r21 or something else.

Anyway thanks for your help.... :)
