I have a pentium iii computer that has recently had a new mother board put in. when the motherboard was put in, now the computer does not recognize or cannot find the sound driver. it is in there, but there is no sound coming from the computer. the speaker icon does not show on the taskbar. anyone have any idea what i could do to resolve it. ?

The motherboard should have come with a CD-Rom containing the drivers for the soundcard - Windows normally requests these if they are missing.

Does the soundcard appear in Device Manager? If it does, and there's an exclamation mark by it, remove it.

Download and install the latest drivers from the motherboard manufacturer's website - this is a good thing to do anyway; running the latest drivers ensures the maximimum number of bugfixes.

What is the make and model of your motherboard?

thank you for the information. the motherboard is from Compaq and it was installed by a colleque of mine. he is unwilling to assist in reinstalling or installing the drivers that came with the motherboard. he states that the user does not need to have the soundcard working "so that he could listen to music", but does not understand that in this line of work, the user also listens to training materials. anyway, what else can i do to correct this. I went into device manager and there are no drivers for the soundcard. when you go into the system setup the sound drivers are a blank box as it is recognizable to the system. where can i go from here?

You might try Compaq to see if they have downloadable drivers.

Do you know the maker of the sound card and get the latest drivers for the sound card. If you do not know the maker of the sound card go to the maker of the board and download sound card driver from the maker of board. If the sound card is intergrated.

Some times you have to install the drivers first for it to auto detect the card. I have experienced on some Dell computers.
