Sound card trouble!!!!!

I have a ECS K7VZA ver1.0. I installed a new sound card, disabled the onboard sound from the bios and set jumper JP4 to pin 2-3 and still no sound. I have heard a few seconds of sound when I first installed but now nothing. Has anyone had this same issue or may know something about resolving this.

What kind of card are you putting in? Make sure it is firmly seated in the slot. When you installed it did all the drivers for it install corectly? Also, what does the device manager say about it?

I'm putting in a Mad Dog Prowler 4.1, device manager recognize the hardware and there are no conflicts. All the drivers are installed.

Is there a mixing software that comes with the card? If so open it and make sure that nothing is muted out, like the cd or wave/mp3 etc. Speakers connected to the proper ports?

Yes I have done all that as part of my troubleshooting.

Move that jumper back to its' original setting. Acording to the manual for this board, the way you have it is for if you have a card in the AMR slot (which you don't) I'll bet this is causing the problem...

Your right, I shouldn't have set that jumper on JP4. I'll have to test it when I get home from work. Do you think it could be anything else?

One thought.

I have had better luck leaving the board enabled in the BIOS. Using Device Manager to disable (not uninstall) the device. Then install the drivers for the new device.

If it works fine, leave everything then alone. If there are problems, then try disabling the device in BIOS.

I have found it better in the main the leave the device enabled if an onboard device, and simply disable in Device Manager.

another thought on this subject, it may be totally off but then checking it wouldn't hurt...

is the newer soundcard installed in the last slot of the MoBo, the socalled SLAVE PCI SLOT? if so try it in another slot, some cards (be it gfx, sound, or interface cards (scsi, nic, or IDE)) will not function proberly when installed there or if another card is installed there...

the reason why I mention this, is that it happened to me, installed a SCSI card (conveniently at the last slot) and voila I had chopped sounds from my Soundcard aswell as faulty transfers on the scsi bus! as soon as I switched slots the sound would work fine and the scsi card did aswell...
