Is it possible to share a sound-card in a homenetwork.

My main pc is connected to my hifi-installation. I'd like to be able to play music from my second computer, which is connected to my main pc via a cross-over cable. It's not possible to connect two devices to my hifi-installation so I'd like to do it through my main pc.

I don't think you can "share" the sound card but you probably can pull the music from the second computer to the connected one.

Depends what sort of music you had in mind... I don't believe actual sharing of the sound card is possible, but if your two machines are networked then there are some possibilities. The main machine could pull say, .WAV and MIDI files across the network from your second PC and play them through the soundcard. You could also create MP3 files of your audio music CDs, as I don't see any easy way to pass analogue audio signals across a network. If you want to control this from the second machine, then maybe PC Anywhere would do the trick!

Good luck!

Thanks for your answers guys,

I do want to control the music from the second pc. From the first one it's no problem, I just select the files on the first or the second pc and play them through the network.

The itch is when I want to play files controlled from the second pc. Maybe I'll try pc-anywhere, if there's no other way.

Can you take the audio output on the second pc and connect it to the autdio input on the first?
The output of the first then connects to the HIFI right?
