Hi, I've just had to reformat my hard drive. Anyway instead of sticking with win98 i decided to go for windows nt for a change. Anyway everything is working fine except I have no sound what so ever. As far as I can tell the sound card isn't recognised by NT, it doesn't know its there but I know the card is connected properly + should work fine. Anyway as my win 98 went 'bad' v.quickly I haven't got drivers for the sound card and don't really know what type it is as I bought the PC a while ago!!! I think its a sound blaster of some sort but when i try the latest NT drivers for that card NT can't find the card at the addresses I can select.

IF anyone can help me with this / point me towards a tool that will tell me what sound card I have or just general advice I'd be very very greatful.....

Cheers
Gary

Look inside the computer for your sound card...is it onboard or and expansion card?

If its onboard, search for details on the m\b and that'll tell you what the sound card is (and from there you can work out what drivers you need).
If its an expansion card, check for numbers and letters which stand out and do a search on them (maybe adding sound blaster if you're sure its one of them).

Then all you need to do is go searching for the drivers.

If it is a sound blaster, try searching on or
If you can't find any drivers here, go searching on something like
Hopefully, you should get an exe file which'll sort out all of the port settings, but if not just try guessing; there can't be that many combinations that don't work.

Look on the card for the FCC id # once you've found it use your search engine to search for sites that will use the ID number to give you the manufacturer's name. Then you can go get your drivers BUT, that does not mean it's NT compatible. You may have to use a driver that won't give you all the bells and whistles, just sound. Or, you may have to get another card.
