i have a problem with my sound card each time i play an mp3 my pc freez is there a device manager for windows like windows ? i think the problem is the driver coz the sound card is working well on windows

sorry i missed typed it is there any device maneger for linux like the one on windows ? the problem is happening on linux

It's not very similar at all.

If you're using Gnome or KDE there should be some hardware settings available for you in the control panels.

Otherwise -- cat /proc/pci

What sound card is it and what modules are you using? What distro did you install? Are you using arts or alsa?

do lsmod to see what modules you have installed so far.

Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 16).

its a built-in sound card im using redhat 7.1 i tried to get an update driver from the manufacturer site but i dont know how to upgrade it :\

i solved the problem :) baught a new sound card haha disabled the built-in one

:)

Glad you got it worked out. I think that on-board controllers are a pain to install. Especially when you're dealing with ALSA sound.
