Hello,<br>I installed Linux Mandrake 7.1 (kernel 2.2.15) and my sound blaster live card refuse to work.<br><br>On boot-up, using sndconfig or HardDrake, they all detect my card, but I get this message :<br><br>/lib/modules/2.2.15-4mdk/misc/emu10k1.o: init_module: Device or resource busy<br><br>any suggestions?<br><br>thanks a lot!<br><br>Danny Lacerte

Hmm I had Mandrake 7.1, and my SBLive! Platinum worked fine, I didnt need to set it up or anything. <p>Karl<br><a href=mailto:kb244@kb244.com>kb244@kb244.com</a><br><a href= </a><br>Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)<br>

Yup, I have the same problem, he's not lying.

The system can clearly identify the card. The driver is there and is found but the above error comes up everytime.

I am using the UK version called the Platinum Live (non-Pro Logic). The US versions have slightly different names but all these types of cards appear to be known as Emu10K.

Someone please post a reply or I'm going to give up with Linux again. It may be more powerful than Windows but appears to be impossible to set up.

Mandrake 8.1 definitely supports the Live card but from what I can see it should be easy to add the support. The problem in this Linux arena is that everyone speaks geek and already assumes you can do it. Not helpful for a beginner!

Cheers,
Leon.

make sure that the PnP OS setting in the BIOS is set to No, then try to reconfigure... AV

Okay, sounds straight forward,
I'll have a go at trying this.

Any ideas for a Zoom internal modem card, this doesn't appear to support linux easily either?

Leon.

The modem might be a WinModem... if so, check to see if there are drivers for it... Otherwise you might be better off getting an external modem... I battled with a &quot;supported&quot; winmodem for a few weeks, before I gave up and got an external unit... never looked back since... AV

The Soundcard is now working fine with the BIOS PnP setting set as Disabled.

As far as I can see I won't get the modem working as it is a 'Winmodem' so the only solution is to get a non-winmodem. The Hayes Accura has been suggested.

The reason why a winmodem won't work with Linux is due to Windows code used with the modem to work. Manufacturers aren't forthcoming with the code.

Leon.
