Sound Blaster 16 isa & xp problems

i have a creative soundblaster 16 (isa) model ct2290 and xp. before i reformatted my drive, a friend of mine changed it so it would work, but now it says that there is no card or it is improperly installed. the creative website has no drivers for 2000, or xp. if anyone can help me get my sound back, that would be very helpful.

i cant to spend money on it. if anyone can give a free solution or a way to do it with the stuff i have would be better i think.

You may NOT have that option.. As per the Microsoft Knowledge Base..

Microsoft Windows XP does not provide native support for ISA non-Plug and Play devices, including sound cards.

It is sometimes possible to obtain limited functionality from an ISA non-Plug and Play sound card if the card manufacturer offers Microsoft Windows Driver Model (WDM) driver support. Use the Add New Hardware Wizard to install the WDM driver. If it is installed successfully, the sound card will produce sound.

MORE INFORMATION
Even if the the WDM driver can be installed, functionality will be limited to audio files that do not use Digital Rights Management (DRM). DRM support must be provided by the driver.

XP & W2K do not provide support for legacy/ISA devices. If you can use the ifo already posted and get it to work, the functionality is very compromised. Best to get an inexpensive PCI sound card. check for used/overstocks, etc in your area, could cost $10-20US.

The card layout and jumper settings for the ct2290 can be found at:

It is certainly on the windows2000 and XP hardware compatibility lists, so there should be drivers for it.

I use a CT3600 isa with no problems under xp.
