I'm running home-made computer (VIA chipset, 1.8MHZ, 256MB RAM, Realtec AC'97 audio, NVIDIA GEForce2 video, 80GB HD, OS-Win2k server. When playing audio sound skips (CD and Internet radio). When playing DVD video and sound skips as well. I defragmented hard drives, enabled DMA on hard drives, reduced display from 32 to 16, upgraded via 4-1 drivers. I looked at IRQ conflicts, and found audio, video, firewire, and network cards, and SCSI card for my 2 hard drives on IRQ 11. I understand Win2k can handle many devices on the same IRQ. Still skipping. Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. I uninstalled audio card, and reinstalled with the latest driver. The skipping problem only got worse. It is skipping more often. Any other ideas?

Why are you running Win2k server? Usually you don't use your server for playing audio etc..

Now I don't think thats the cause of your problem.

Have you updated direct x? I think win2k server ships with direct x version 5 and it might be that some of your applications to play music video would benefit from having a newer version of direct x installed.

The latest version can be found here.
or if you got nice connection to the net get the redist version that will let you reinstall when you want etc. found here
