sorting vlookup results

I have a sheet that combines data from several other sheets using vlookup (each column references data from a different sheet). The problem is, I cannot sort the results of the vlookups, I assume this is because the sort command is actually sorting my formulas not the results. Is there some way to sort by the returned values?

Sort your reference list -- the column that you are looking up.

Your lookups will be in the same sequence.

One option is to:

1) Create a new worksheet,

2) Copy the Vlookup formulas,

3) On the new worksheet, Paste Special and convert to Values.

4) Sort

You can copy and paste special (values) to a second column then sort.
