I have an issue trying to sort tables in ascending & descending order. When I look at any of the tables and try to sort a colum under MMC 1.2 the sort ascending & descending options are grayed out. It is like this on every pc. I am running sql 7.0 with sp3 on a w2k server with sp2. All of the client pcs are w2k pro with sp4 with the sql client installed. Does anyone have any ideas with this is? I find it hard to believe that is not function of sql.

Thanks

Sorry, I may be thick here, but I do not fully understand what you are trying to accomplish here. Are we talking about being in Enterprise Manager and say looking at a list of tables in a DB that you are unable to sort them by hitting the column header you are trying to sort on?

Please educate me a bit futher - LOL

Thanks

mmc ??? im intrigued.... ill be glad to help to.. once i know whats goin on.

Sorry for not being clearer. Yes under entiprise manager I open up a single table and within that table I want to sort a colum in ascending or descending order, but the buttons are grayed out. Is that how it is supposed to be????

Have you tried clicking on the column headers. They are all in gray but clicking on them will show an ascending/descending, depending on which way the sort is going, arrow once it has been evoked.

Thanks

Here is what was answered before to this question. I think it answers it pretty well.

The sort buttons in Enterprise Manager don't work in the same way as they do in Access. They can be used to add Order By columns to a query.

From Enterpise Manager, open a table as a query. Note that the table columns are listed in the diagram pane. If you click on one of the column names, the sort buttons will be enabled. Click on one of the buttons (Asc or Desc) and the query designer adds an order by clause to the query using the column name selected. You can see the order by clause in the SQL pane. Other columns can be added in the same way.

Currently, Enterprise Manager is not as sophisticated as Access. It doesn't have all the same GUI features.
