Hi Members,

I have a line chart that shows Total $ for each person for 5 years. There are 5 charts (one for each department). The years are 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003. The chart should display the totals in that order but sometimes it mixes them up (2000, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003). I've checked all of the various sort options but can't find what is causing this? Any suggestions?

Check to see if topN is set. If this doesn't solve the problem, then explain the datatype of the field you are using as your "on change of" field, and show us how it is formatted. If you are using a formula, show the content of the formula.

data type is string.

The years are 1999-sales, 2000-sales, 2001-sales, 2002-sales, and 2003-sales. The chart should display the totals in that order but sometimes it mixes them up (2000-sales, 1999-sales, 2001-sales, 2002-sales, 2003-sales).

so in 'on change of' filed datatype is string.
i also tried set 'on change of' field order to ascending, descending, original.

but even though it does not work.

but LBASS i analyzed other problem.

suppose for perticular instance

dollar $ year

1000 2000
700 1999
1100 2001
1050 2002

so at the bottom of my line char in legend it sould be show
1999-sales 2000-sales 2001-sales 2002-sales

but it shows me
2001-sales 2002-sales 1999-sales 2000-sales

i think because of dollar$ on another axis it is scrude up withing order of years-sales.

your help is appriciated LBASS.

Thanks LBASS

You need to check topN and make sure that is not set. Then make sure that the order is set to ascending. Can you verify also that you do not have more than one "on change of" field? If you had a higher order on change of field, it could change the order.

hi lbass,

thanks and i apriciated your helpt to me my friend.

lbass, yea i verified that i have more than on "on change of@ fields.

first one is monthname and second below of it is a
years.

and i also verified that TOP N is not set on both of this field.

but still it gives me hard time.

thanks lbass.

appriciated your time and help.

For monthname, if it displays like Jan, Feb, etc., go to order->specified order and enter them in correct order. I think the years should automatically display correctly if you use ascending order. Since groups are nested within groups, you should see something like:

Jan Feb
1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003

But if there were only one or two years for a particular month, you could see:

Jan Feb
2003 1999 2002

If you want the year to drive the order, then make the year your first on change of field.

hi lbass,

still this small thing gives me hard time.

lbass i am using adventure works database which ships with sql server 2005 and from that i am developing my reports.

so is there any way that i can e-mail my .rpt file so u can easily and find out my problem ?

can you provide me your e-mail id so on that id i can attach my .rpt file lbass ?

you are the one who regulary provides me solutions.
i would be great if u provide your e-mail so i can attach my .rpt file.

thanks.

No, not possible. You have to stay within the forum. Just show a sample of how the crosstab displays, as I just did.

-LB

ok .

but can i submit my .rpt in this forum ?

thank lbass.

I guess you could upload it (see Step 3 Attachments), but I think you could show us a mockup right in the thread.
