I have a report for purchases from vendors.

I have it grouped on the vendor and the detail shows all the purchases.

I summed the purchases in the group line so I get the total $ purchased from each vendor.

I would like to sort by this total $ purchased so I get our biggest supplier at the top but can't seem to find a way to accomplish this kind of sort.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I believe this can be done with a Group Sort.
Highlight the 'total $ purchased' in your group and then select the "Group Sort Expert" from the toolbar or from the Report menu.
Then change the 'No Sort' to 'All'.

Thanks Andy,

Unfortunately the Total $ Purchased is not one of the options when I use the Group Sort Expert.

Laurie,

I am no expert on data bases can you explain further what you mean by "do it in the data source" and "Where does the data live?". Can you explain how I can answer your question?

Thanks again for the help.

Are you pulling the data from Access? From SQL Server?
In Access create a query to pull the data that groups on vendor and sums the total $ purchased. Let us know where the data is pulled from and someone can help you more. I'm taking tomorrow off!

We are running Microsoft Dynamics AX and the data is being pulled directly from it.

You can do this by doing a Top N sort on the summary.

As suggested by AndyMc and Charliy, the Group Sort (Top N) is what you need, but it does rely on a Crystal Summary to work, ie, your "... total $ purchased ..." needs to have been created by Insert >> Summary. If your summary is from a Running Total or a variable it won't work.

In the Group Sort Expert you will see a Tab for each group in the report. Make sure the Vendor group is selected if there is more than 1 group, then click on the drop down list and select ALL. You will then be presented with a choice for "based on" from which you need to click on your summary field.

If you require any further assistance, post back.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Pete
