Hi All
I am currently trying to sort a report

My report looks like this...

Group A includes different clients

ie. Group A
Client 1
Client 2
Client 3

Group B
Client 4
Client 5

etc...

I am trying to sort by billings for each group. When I try to sort by group it sorts them alphabetically and not by billings...but when i sort by billings it breaks up the group and puts the clients individually...I want it to sort by highest billing per group...I hope this makes sense...thanks a million

I don't see any "by billings" information in your sample display. It would help if you provide some actual data. You can only sort by values from the record source query of the report. If the value ain't there or you can't calculate it from a single record, you won't be able to sort by it.

Hi Duane
Here is what it would look like

Group A
Client 1 Billings $2000
Client 2 Billings $15000
Client 3 Billings $1000
Total Billings for Group A $18,000

Group B
Client 4 Billings $3000
Client 5 Billings $1000
Total Billings for Group A $4,000

Client Billings are summed up in the query...in the report is where i group the clients billings into their appropriated groups...and when i am in my report and i select to sort by billings, it sorts by individual clients..and breaks the group apart but if i select group, it just sorts them aphabetically...not sure if this explains what i am trying to do...

If the sum of billings is calculated in the query, just set your report sorting and grouping to:
Group
SumOfBillings
I don't see how in your example there is a "Total Billings for Group A $4,000" under the "Group B"...

BTW: I am going out of town for several days (no computer) so maybe someone else will check this thread if you need more assistance.
