Hi,
When you go into Start -> Programs -> you see a list of programs that have been installed. Normally you go into task bar and click properties and you click on sort to sort them out in Alphabetical order. In Win2K I had to click on Show Small Icons in Start Menu and uncheck it and then click on Sort button for it to sort properly, but in XP programs remains unsorted any ideas??? I have deleted the profile and it goes back not sorting again. Thanks

Go to Start -> Programs and then right click on any program and click on Sort by Name. Does this answer your question? Biffo, the Godfather of making mistakes in life. Although, his Tek-Tips answers and questions are no mistakes.

In XP Start Menu not Classic Start Menu try this:

Right click All Programs > Choose Open
On the Explorer menu choose View > Details
View > Arrange Icons by... > Name

This is a edited quote from MS article:
Start Menu and Favorites Menu Are Not Listed in Alphabetical Order

To sort the Programs menu, the Documents menu, or the Favorites menu, right-click any item on the menu, and then click Sort by Name.
...the Start menu and the Favorites menu list folders first and shortcuts to programs or other items last. The folders and shortcuts are displayed in alphabetical order on each menu.
If pro is the opposite of con, what's the opposite of Congress?

rjkrash , thanks for the microsoft link. I had to go into the registry as they mentioned for Win98 believe it or not and deleted the order key related to the start menu and rebooted and they are sorted now. Thanks once again

I'll bet you upgraded over a previous OS and that key was left over.

My XP doesn't have the Order value on Explorer but I do on Favorites.
If pro is the opposite of con, what's the opposite of Congress?

Nope it is a fresh install of Windows XP Pro. It is never ever a good idea to upgrade an existing OS to a new OS. It rarely happens where it does not sort the programs, meaning other people have not seen it yet but if it happens to you than check the registry as mentioned in the link that you provided, you will see the order value than. XP works great but I had always problems with the profile that it creates that is the only problems I have seen with XP on my end.

What's problem have you got with the profiles?

The classic start menu has the sort option. And I use the classic anyways coz it has personalised menus (ie. stuff disappears when not used like in win2k). The new XP menu has a list of recent applications which is supposed to do a similar job but (I don't know about other people) for me, it doesn't work! Some stuff just stays in there even though you never use it and some things just don't appear in the list no matter how many times you use it (and yes, I tried emptying the list). Also, the "pin to start menu" option doesn't appear on some shortcuts. So all in all, the darn thing just doesn't work, so I use classic.
