I know this must be simple, and I have read through dozens of posts, so maybe I have just missed it somehow. I have a report that is grouped by the employee ID number. It displays the groups in that order. But I need to sort and print the groups themselves by the employee Name field. I can't change the grouping criteria to name because we have many people with the same name. How do I retain the group sort, but sort the groups on the name??

Sample data:
Emp# LastName FirstName Competency
1000 Jones Mary Praxis 1
Praxis 2
Math 1

1500 Brown Joe English Lit
HS Biology

1800 Smith John HS Science

2500 Adams Debbie Music 1
Teen Living

3000 Smith John Technology

Insert a summary on the LastName field set this to maximum for each employeeID.

You can then use the Group Sort Expert, Report menu -> Group Sort Expert

For This group sort = All
based on = Max of LastName

Create a formula {@NameSort}:

{table.name} + totext({table.emplno},0,"")

Insert a group on this instead of on employee number alone. You can then remove the groupname and add the name field to the group header.

I used the second solution as it seemed more straightfoward to me, but I thank you both very much!!
