I have just purchased a refurb Dell Poweredge 2300 and would like to put an OS on it.

I have WinXP Pro. I can't find anything on if this will work on my server. I've looked at Dell's site and couldn't find any info on compatability.

I'm also lost as to how to get the thing to boot.

This is the first Server I have ever played with. I've only done desktops up until now.

Could anybody out povide a few pointers in the right direction. I'm not looking for a "step by step for a dumbass", but I don't know where to look to solve my problem.

Thanks Pete

Have you ever performed disk partitioning using FDISK before?

If so the first thing that I suggest is that you run FDISK on the drive.

1. Remove all partitions
2. Create a primary DOS partition
3. Restart Machine
4. Format Primary DOS partition
5. Run FDISK with a switch of /MBR
6. Install Windows XP Pro

During the setup of XP Pro you'll be asked what partition you wish to install XP on, select the Primary DOS partition and convert it to NTFS.

I hope that this helps.
