I have a Sony Vaio Laptop running Vista and I recently upgraded from Firfox 2 to 3. Once I completed the upgrade, I rebooted my Vaio and haven't been able to get back online since.

I can establish a wireless connection or even plug in a cable but both IE and Firefox still cannot access the internet. They both say cannot display webpage, even though I have an active connection. And when I try to Diagnose Connection Problems, Vista says it cannot find any connection issues.

I've never had any issues prior to this in Vista and it happened immediately after upgrading to Firefox 3. I tried doing a system restore to several days prior, to no avail. I uninstalled Firefox and that didn't do anything either, as expected.

Anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks in advance.

Thanks TLC. I tried both of your suggestions and unchecking IP V6 completely blocked my wireless connection (again i AM able to establish a connection, but for some reason none of my browsers can get online).

And I reset the winsock connection and still not able to get online.

Weird, I can still connect and am able to use Itunes and even log into the laptop from work using LogMeIn, but still not able to get online from the laptop. UGH!!!

If the browsers do work in safe mode it is definately something in the background that is causing the issues.

Have you tried creating a new user and logon as that user and see if it is just a corrupt profile?

If the new user works then something in the old profile is the issue.

I had another thought after submnitting my previous post.

Have you tried right clicking on Internet Explorer icon and select run as administrator and see if you can then get online?

Thanks again tlc...Created a new profile and it didn't work.

Ran as administrator and that didn't work either.

Safe mode with networking is still the only way to get on.

You can try narrowing down the software causing the issue by using msconfig.
Go to the startup tab and shut things off one at a time restarting after each. When you are able to access the internet then the last program shut off is the one causing the issue.
You could then uninstall and reinstall the associated software.

Symantec- does it have worm protection? If so, try disabling it.

The test continues...
