I have a three year old Sony VAIO PCG-FX240 notebook. Over the past few months I had noticed the battery would not keep the machine up for more than a few minutes so I knew it was going bad. A couple of weeks ago it got to where it would die even though I had it plugged in to the electrical outlet. I got a replacement battery (PCGABP71) and charged/discharged it a couple of times. The last time I discharged it (left it on all night) and tried to turn it on, it would not power up. It won't work with either battery or no battery. I checked the power cord, where it plugs into the notebook, it has the proper current.
I live in a one horse town, so to get it worked on I would either have to drive to Jackson, an hour and a half away, or send the machine into SONY. God only knows how long that would take, not to mention how much it would cost.
Any ideas?

I thought sure a town of 40,000 people would have at least 5 horses. I'm in a town of 5,000 and have many more than that, e.g. 1 horse, 5 cows, 4 calves and 2 heifers just across the road.

Unfortunate for Notebook owners is that there's very few independent repair shops that can work on Notebooks or even get parts for them. Dell now requires certification for repair on their Inspiron series [but not the Lattitude series, which they seem to have dropped from their catalogs].

Ooops! You caught me. We do have more than one horse. But they are all REALLY SLOW.
