Sony GDM F500 Monitor colors reversed

After returning from a 14 hour power failure, it was apparent that my Viewsonic 813 had seen its last days, so I grabbed a brand new Sony F500 (been in storage in the original factory box for five years). When I fired it up, the diagnostic color bars told me what I suspected, white is white, red is blue, green is red, and blue is green. I've Auto degaussed many times, and a visual inspection inside does not reveal anything obviously loose, moved, broken, etc.

I've seen a lot of unusual things in my TV repair days, but I need help with this one.

Try a different video card. This should narrow it down.

Thanks Mick. I appreciate your reply. Guess I should have mentioned that I have 3 computers on an A/B switch, so it's a simple matter to switch video cards, so to speak. I'm sorry to report that I get the same results on all three. Guess it's back to the monitor drawing board

It looks like a connector somewhere has been put backwards or is badly assembled (wires in the wrong connector pins). Is the input connector going directly to a PC board? Could be a screwed up connection anywhere down the road, from the input connector up to the guns. It could be hard to pinpoint without access to a schematic and a scope though.

Felix, you may well be correct, however, since all I did was to lift a previously working monitor out and set this one in, I feel like I'm OK from the PC to the end of the video cable.
I'm also kind of baffled that a brand new monitor could have made it off of the assembly line in this kind of shape, although anything's possible. I did notice today that I have a very small area in the upper right hand corner about the size of a dime where all of the colors appear to be correct. I suppose I could be looking at some kind of gross misconvergence of the guns, although I've never experienced anything that misaligned. Major bump in shipping perhaps?

Is this a CRT monitor? If so, a "deguassing" might help. The small "spot" may be where the "auto-deguass" is having an effect at curing the problem. There should be a "deguass" button on the monitor (or from within the setup screen). This used to be a common problem with T.V.'s. Sometimes we had to use a large deguasser to completly de-magnify a T.V. If nothing else, take the monitor to the nearest T.V. repair shop and have it done. The auto-deguass should take care of the small change from the shop to your home.

Yes, it is a CRT, and I think you're onto something. I'm sitting here kicking myself for merrily giving away my degaussing coil ten years ago thinking I would never need it again. I read somewhere about using a soldering gun as a "po man's" coil. Just tried it, and it made a phenomenal difference. It's not completely clean, but it's a sure sign we're headed in the right direction. Will probably have to get my hands an a real coil to get it all.

I sincerely thank you and each of you for the replies. I love it when a plan comes together....especially when it involves something that costs $1,600.
