Okay, I am done smashing my head on the table. Here is my problem. I have two computers that are working fine using the SW VPN Global client. I am trying to setup another computer and have installed the same version of the client, its on the same network with the same firewall that is allowing the other two to connect but for the love of all things great and small I cannot get the third computer to connect. I have triple checked that all settings are identical to the other two. The connection dies at phase 1 with the following error:

The peer is not responding to phase 1 ISAKMP requests.

It makes sense that there must be some firewall software running on that specific computer blocking the connection but there isn't! No Zone Alarm nothing. Its a brand new laptop running Windows XP Home latest updates.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You indicate that your Home XP laptop has all of the latest updates. Would that include XP SP2? In which case there would be the windows firewall... Just a thought.

How many VPN tunnels does your SonicWall license say you can have? One of the low-end ones only allows two concurrent.

Dissable SP2's local firewall for the LAN connection, SP2 auto enables this and it causes problems with GVC.

if you are still having problems after that then the next thing is try reinstalling the GVC client.

If that does not work see if there is a Network adapter listed in the network protocol and adapters properties for the LAN named "deterministic network adapter" if so remove it, yes it is supposed to be there according to some installments for the Sonicwall Client but as I found out form a Sonicwall tech sometimes this causes problems with Windows Xp and the VPN client.

anyhow give those things a try, if that still does not work there are a few other options,

best of luck,

Paul

Thanks for all the help guys. We ended up loaning the employee a different laptop and it worked. Apparently they figured out what the problem was but haven't told me yet. I'll post it here when I hear about.

Thanks again,

Dylan

Please post when you find something out. I have a SOHO 50 running. I am about to add VPN to it as well to connect our salesman to the site. All the laptop's run XP Pro, so I am curious in case I come accross the same situation.

The global client will work but you have to go in the SP2 firewall and allow all the files in the VPN directory, believe you have to add them to the firewall exclusion list
