I am looking at implementing a SONET ring (OC12) from our prem to the carrier's CO. I am looking at different bandwidth for our internet connection that will ride this ring. A couple of these bandwidths require either a DS3 (40Mb) or OC3 (50Mb). What should I expect the handoff to be from the SONET switch for both a DS3 and OC3 at my end (prem)?

Thanks,

dc

OC-3 is not 50meg, it's 155meg. If you go with the OC-3 handoff, is it 1+1 or 0x1 handoff? For 1+1, you have 4 fibers, 2 working, 2 protect. 0x1 is just 2 fibers, if the fibers are disconnected or one of the interfaces go bad, you are out of service; with 1+1 you have some protection on the interface. Odds are the carrier will charge you more for the 1+1 handoff, but that will depend on the carrier.

DS-3 is normally 2 coax cables.

What CPE are you planning on connecting this to?
