Ok.. I've had this for awhile but I don't know how to get it off or whats causing this.. If I put in 2 "LL"s then it turns into "**" in my internet browsers.. does anyone know whats causing this to happen?

Address bar, or in a web form?
Try:
Clear AutoComplete: In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Content, Auto Complete, Clear Forms

Like.. in google.com or if I click on a link and it has two "ll"'s then it will turn it into stars and give me a unknown page.. its quite annoying..

Can you give us a more specific example? like kill being ki** and when you click on the url it is bad?

Yes it gets converted when I type it.. If I type it in here it will convert it.. so I can't even type it..

I suggest:

1.) Download AdAware SE and SpyBot S&D and HiJackThis...

2.) Boot into Safetymode, disable System Restore...

3.) run AdAware and SpyBot S&D (in that order) and have them remove what ever they find... then rerun both once again... if they find anything else, remove it...

4.) run an updated AntiVirus progie (I assume that you have one)... have it fix what ever it finds...

5.) run HiJackThis have it make a LOG file, have this log file analyzed at the following website (there is a box for it):
6.) fix what ever is reported as being bad/malicious...

7.) reboot into normal mode, rerun HiJackThis creating another log and paste it here...

good luck...

Ben

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...

If I type it in here it will convert it.. so I can't even type it.."

Is this happening as you actually type the words or only after they are previewed by this site?

Have you another keyboard you can try? Is the fault repeated for all the users or just your profile? Is the fault repeated in Safe Mode. Is the fault repeated in other programs besides IE?

If the problem is a 'conversion' when you submit it to the web, may be the HOSTS file is corrupt or hijacked.
James

I honestly think their is a bad guy Browser Helper Object. I agree with linney, time for faq608-4650

It converts it when I post it or if I "View Post" it will convert it..

Oh, and it won't convert it in games or mIRC or text editors but if I copy something off the internet and paste it in a text editor then it will convert it..

Viewing it is harmless. This is actually quite common:

If it occurs while typing, I still suspect a BHO, and the faq608-4650 as a first step is strongly recommended.

If it in-line is autocompleting:
In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab
Turn off:

. use customized Favorites
. use inline AutoComplete
. use third-party browser extensions (requires restart)

In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Content, AutoComplete, and uncheck all checkmarked boxes.

And exit IE and restart.

blakee: getting a broken link when viewing the logs, and the following:

"Directly downloading images is not permitted on the Netfirms FREE plan. If you are the owner of this site, either ensure that this image is embedded in a web page, or upgrade to one of the Netfirms premium plans."

Just FYI.

No luck with your url's.

We will forgive you if you post (if you can????) your Hijack This log directly into here.
