I am trying to create an Access Database. I would like to have some kind of security systme set up, where people will be able to see the information in the database, but will not be able to change anything. I know that you can set it up in Forms, but then you can always go and make changes in the Table using design view, so that doesn't work. I don't really want it passwprd protected, because I need others to be able to see the information, just not be able to change anything. Also, if there is a way that I could get Automated numbers that cannot be edited, then that would be good too.
Thanks alot

i think what u need is to make ur file and mde, read more about this in the help file....

to do this go to tools--->database utilities---->convert to MDE

Just be aware that when you make an mde file people can still edit the queries and reports.

Ok,
let me rephrase the question, is it posible to allow people to chnage things, but be able to have a number of some sort that is automatic, that canot be cnanged manually. I tried making a date variable using the ("=date()" function) but although the computer automatically put in the date, you can still chnage the date to whatever you want, so that did not work. I want something automated that canot be changed, preferable a date or some kind of ID number, so that if someone does make changes to the database, I can see when they made the change?
Thanks alot

if u put an autonumber field named ID in the table, no one will be able to change it.

go to the table go, press design,
1.in field name type ID (or whatever u want)
2.data type, choose autonumber

but i dont see how this iwll help as you will stil have to go through the whole table to see what has changed!!

" ... I don't really want it passwprd protected, because I need others to be able to see the information, just not be able to change anything ..."

Doesn't really follow logically. Security -properly implemented- does allow users to view data and prevents changing. I'm sure the complete soloution is a lot more than I can get across in this format (text only), but a thorough review of a GOOD third party reference which covers security properly would explain the functionallity. This is one area where I think the Ms. Speak (a.k.a. {F1} is really quite inadequate, but others HAVE done at least a reasonable dissertation on the topic. While it IS (or at least can be) daunting, it is also quite worth the efort.
