We have had some strange problems in Macola the past few weeks with two different workstations. I have tried all the suggestions I could find on Macola's website, but no luck.

The first workstation is getting "abnormal cleanup" errors frequently. We have removed Macola and all Macola/ SQL related files from this machine and reinstalled twice with no luck, along with trying other fixes like re-registering .dll files, etc. At one point, it did work well for several days, only to get right back to the point of daily problems. The message pops up at different times, not always in the same screen/ area. Any suggestions?

The second problem workstation recently developed a problem viewing Macola Crystal Reports, and order acknowledgements in particular. Again, we tried re-installing Macola, etc, but it still has issues. Although it was set to view by default, he usually just needs to print the acknowledgement rather than view it. We changed it to print rather than view by default and that has given us a work-around. I still would like to find out if this is a problem others have run into though.

A side issue that hasn't been a big deal is a couple different users have had shortcuts that have quit working for unknown reasons. Replacing the shortcut seems to solve it, and it has been only rare occassions, but it is still rather starange to me. Any ideas would be appreciated. You guys have been a big help to me so far.

Stacy,

Are you talking about Sever COM/ADO errors?

Please post the entire error message if possible.

The second issue has been resolved, but the first issue ("Abnormal Cleanup") is still hanging around. And of course, wouldn't you know we didn't have this problem again for a while. It seems to go that way when you WANT something to screw up it won't. And the times it did go wrong, I wasn't here to see it. Finally, the user got the message again while I was around. It reads:

MSL System Warning
Abnormal Cleanup of MacSqlConnMan in MacMSS.dll, No server exit Op provided! Some client & server resources may be left in an unknown state.

This user has plenty of ram, gets this message at various times (heavy usage, light usage, order entry, lookup, etc), and seems to have no other issues. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!
Stacy

My experience with this has been network issues, such as name resolution. Is there a delay when first browsing through the Macapps directory? Can you ping the server by name? Macola will be more likely to react to small network issues than some other applications. Things like network card drivers and duplex settings can also make a difference.

Check your internal DNS server. If you do not have one this could be part of your problem. As grossow eluded to the name pinging will eventually work on a network without a DNS server because you are probably running NetBios for name resolution.

NetBios is inherintly slower than straight TCP/IP with a DNS server.

DNS and network settings seem fine. However, there is one thing that is unusual about this machine as opposed to the others in the office. We have a relatively new phone system from Inter-tel that we selected due to its IP capabilities. It comes in quite handy for remote offices. This user is using an ip phone that connects to her computer. I am going to see if we can't run a second cable for her phone and see if that remedies the situation. Thanks for the suggestions!
