Some text blank on IE 6 & 7 webpages

I've been cleaning a laptop computer of spyware and adware.
The last problem I have is with internet explorer.

If I do a search in google, the results page doesn't display the results. It is blank. If I do a View Source then I can see the results but they are not displaying on the page.

I went into Tools->Internet Options->Accessiblity and checked the box marked "Ignore font styles specified on web pages"

This brought the fonts back but I do not want to keep this setting since the fonts are now not what they should be.

I have run Ad-Aware from Lavasoft and went to Trend-Micro's online housecall scanner. I also have run Spybot-Search and Destroy.

THe OS is Windows XP Home Edition - SP2. I have also upgraded IE6 to IE7 with hopes of overwriting the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.
 
I have upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 so that IEFIX won't work.

The problem still remains.
I have also done a sfc /scannow which didn't find anything.
 
SFC /Scannow is not the issue. A DLL is missing a registration is more likely the cause.

Open a new notepad session, to be called IE_fix.cmd, and copy/paste the below:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll

regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll

Save the file, then double click IE_fix.cmd and answer the prompts. Ignore any error messages.

Reboot and test again.

I ran that file and it did not help.

I restarted the computer into safe mode, logged in as administrator and the fonts in IE displayed fine.

I upgraded the Adobe Acrobat reader and disabled all add-ons. The problem still remains.
 
Did that and it worked partially then it went back to the same problem.
 
Control Panel, Accessibility Options, Display, uncheck High Contrast (if enabled).

In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
On the General tab, click Accessibility.
Un-Select the Ignore colors specified on webpages, Ignore font styles specified on webpages, and Ignore font sizes specified on webpages check boxes, and then click OK twice.

The pages where still showing blank so I went and reinstalled Service Pack #2 for Windows XP.

This corrected the problem and the browser works fine now.
