I'm runing Panther with the new versions of Suitecase and Quarkxpress 6.1. Some of my fonts such as "SPUD" will not load the printer font so when I send to the Laserwriter or the rip it does'nt show up. with the other mac on the network we are using OS-9X with qxp 4X
and Spud prints fine. Is it panther or is it the new version of suitecase? Because on the OS.9 with the older version of S.case you can see the suitecas icon and you can open it and view it. with the new system the suitecase icon
appears to be a generic document as if it could'nt be loaded. any thoughts??? [morning]

Re-install how? What if you only have the fonts on another computer and are copying across the network? I am having a very similar problem. However, OSX is not recognizing the suitcase part of the font. It dispays it as a fontbook icon. Instead of a folder containing the other parts of the font. Because of this Suitcase (the application) cannot see the font and will not install.

Suitcase X1 is very strick. if you don't have every element to the font ie screen and printer. or the font IDs clash, then it won't work.
that's why you have to delete it and "reinstall".
If you don't have the CD which came with the font, then there is a good chance, (and I'm not saying you RyanPace) that the font you have is not something which you have brought.

The previous versions of suitcase and OS 9 were much more forgiving

No. I can not say that I have the CD with the font "SPUD" on it. Thats'because all of the fonts that we use at our printing plant is pulled off of the server that we share with our design team in another state. legal, the fonts are. We in the pre-press dept. do not get the originals. the designers upload the documents with the fonts that are needed for each job.

Hmmm, Which you then delete after job is completed, I'm sure???

Try in your suitcase preferences, I think I saw something about turning all that warnings and stuff off.

Other than all that I'm out of suggestions

Marcus

Bingo!
You're correct. I forgot about suitcase preferences.
Sometimes it's the little things that trip you up. Thanks.
I know, this was an easy fix, Try something harder next time.
Thanks again.

Kevander, what exactly did you change in the preferences of Suitcase? It seems my problem is very similar. We are a large printer as well and always get fonts submitted with the native files from our customers. Hence, Re-installation is not an option. (and yes we throw these away)
We have a Univers Postscript font set supplied on customer disk that loads and works fine on our 9.2 machine with ATM. However on the OS 10.3 machine the font suitcase icon turns into generic icon that can't be opened as you described.

What I did was burned the font in question onto a cd from
one of the macs' that I knew it would work on. I then took that cd over to the mac with the new operating system on it and loaded the font in the harddrive. launched suitecase X1
created a new folder and named that folder the "Spud test".
I then added the font to that folder and quit suitecase.
I went back to my HD where i keep my fonts opened up the problem font double clicked on that font suitecase "printer fonts" at the bottom of my screen where all of the icons for the panther software appears I double clicked on the one with the BIG "F" on it [FONT BOOK] another window opened
and a sample of the font was viewable on that window the words install appeared i CLicked on that word then checked the list of fonts that was shown to make sure that the one
that i wanted to install was there.

then I quit out of font book and launched suitecase made that font active launched quark and printed a sample document using that font.
everything was ok.

Let me know how you make out.[bigcheeks]

We have the same situation here. Our inquiries have found it's the new version of suitcase. I usually have to either shut down quark and restart or remove the font from extensis and add it again.

It's definately a hassle. If you find another option, please let me know. This is what I've found out so far.

I have found that instead of using the "add" button in suitcase to navigate to and install fonts, I just open the folder where they are located and drag and drop them onto the set in suitcase where I wish to install them. I have found that most Fonts suitcase cannot see or recognize while navigating will work when "dropped" onto a set. Not sure why but that is the only way I can get many of our customers fonts to load.
