Unfortunately illegal operations can be caused in many different ways. Usually there is a link to technical information about the precise cause of the error. If you can repost with more specific information, I'm sure you'll get a more helpful response!

Actually, such operations are common only if there is a problem. Clean os installations usually don't have this problem. When it starts to happen, you usually want to look at the changes that have been recently made. If there are none, then you probably want to scan for both viruses and spyware. You can also hit the details button, and record the text, i.e. "iexplore has caused an invalid page fault in module iexplore.exe" and look for this message on the internet.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Common on 98 Format & reinstall then keep it clean!
Norton system doctor cured my 98SE machine.
Install Adaware & Spybot.
Run windows update on a regular basis.

as others have stated - something ain't installed correctly - or there's conflicting versions - possible bad RAM too.
see this and hunt down the error
use the Browser "find in this page" feature to quickly jump to keywords in the page.
Post some more exact info on the errors if possible here.
Do you notice it referring to one module/executable? such as MSGSVR32 or similar?
