Solution for 3213 fault

In my organization many phone 3213 are fault, I see that is the little diode 1N5187 at the out of IC of voltage regulator that fail! If replace the diode with another the phone is again OK!

What fault does this cure? Is this for a phone that is completely dead.
The most common fault I've come across on these phones is that the screen will only display a series of blocks.
