Hi

I have installed solaris10 on X86. I am not able to get the network working on the sun server. I can see the NIC and can assign IP address to it. I am not able to ping the solaris server from anyother machine on the network neither the sun server can ping any other machine.

Please help.

Thanks
Maneesh

First of all try pinging your own ip address.
If this works you Nic is ok.
Then open a terminal windos and run snoop the_pinged_ip
ON another terminal window run ping the desired ip.
On the snoop window see what u get.

Run ipconfig -a and check to see if the subnet mask for your solaris 10 box matches your network subnet mask.

What is the response from ping (No Answer or Network Unreachable or Unknown Name)?

I have checked the subnet masks and they are all the same. When I ping any device on the same network the response is No Answer.

Thanks

Did you try snooping the ip you are pinging?

(see above)

I have tried snooping the ip and there is nothing that comes up on the window where I ran the "snoop" command. I have done some more please have a look
***********************************************************
I have done something with the server config. I ran the below commands

#touch /reconfigure
#sys-unconfig

The server then rebooted and started asking me all the question regarding configuration. During this process it also picked up network card as "bge0" and I was asked to provide IP address and subnet mask and gateway ip address. After all this the server rebooted. Then after logging into the server I ran the command "#ifconfig -a" it shows me that the interface "bge0" is up and has a valid ip address and subnet mask. I am still not able to ping the default gateway or any other device from this server.

My network is configured in the following manner
I have wireless router connected to my cable modem. The router is also a 4 port switch. If I connect my laptop to the switch directly with a physical cable it works fine. My laptop gets an IP address and I can browse the internet.
My solaris server is connected to the same switch with a physical cable.
The router IP address - 192.168.0.1
Laptop IP - 192.168.0.100
Server IP - 192.168.0.90
subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway for Laptop & server - 192.168.0.1

Please help me where I am going wrong.

Thanks

Hardware Issue? Get a cross over cable and connect your laptop to the Server... Snoop on the server... Ping the server from the laptop.
