Hi,

Could you guys give me some backup strategies for a solaris 10 system ?

I installed everything in zfs with a couple of extra pools.

Now they want me to do a full backup of the OS & DATA. In case of problems I would have to put back this backup and make sure the OS boots again.

I also configured my sda & sdb in mirroring (zfs). But this won't help in case of a user caused problem of course.

thx

Forgot mentioning the fact that I dont have a tape device to perform backups on.

They gave me carte blanche to order anything though.

Its a long time since I did anything like this but I used to use a tape drive and "ufsdump"

ufsdump 0uf tserver:/dev/rmt/0n /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 # /
ufsdump 0uf tserver:/dev/rmt/0n /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s6 # /usr
ufsdump 0uf tserver:/dev/rmt/0n /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s1 # /var
ufsdump 0uf tserver:/dev/rmt/0n /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s7 #/export/home
ufsdump 0uf tserver:/dev/rmt/0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s5 # /opt

This was a non mirrored system

zpools>data can be saved using :
zfs snapshot zpool_name@snapshot_name

Can't really add anymore except that at most sites "Netbackup" is used and is out of my hands.
