software upgrade info 1

I have a customer with a MICS with Rls 1-T1. They want to upgrade to use the T7316 phones with the message indicator lamp. I have a system that i'm not using with the ram and 4.1 software in it. I'd like to use this if i can. Do i have to or do i need to some how wipe out/delete the current programming on the non-used sftwre before re-installing it on current system? How do u do that?
I understand that i will have to purchase a upgrade tool to load prior to retain the current programming. If i dont use the tool i will lose all the current programming correct?? Is there a upgrade steps and procedure for this that i could obtain?? If the customer chooses to go to 6.0 are the steps procedures any different?? Thanks!

If you go from R1T1 to R4.1 you will lose programming without the upgrade tool. If you go this route, I'd suggest doing a STARTUP with the R1T1, and when the display reads "Applying template" pull the power, swap softwares, reapply power. To then go to R6.0 or R6.1 is a matter of just powering off and swapping softwares. To go to R7.0 you need to make a stop at R6.1 first.

I re-read your post and the steps to go to R6.0 would be the same.

If you want to save programming you will power down, insert the new data cartridge with the upgrade tool inserted, power on, wait until the display tells you to insert the MICS software, power down, swap the upgrade tool for the R4.1 software, then power on. This can all take about 20-30 minutes to complete. I'd suggest backing up your current configuration with Norstar Manager in case something goes wrong.
