Hello everybody!

I need to update the CSTA release of an OpenScape 4000 V7 R1 for some corrections.
I have followed the "Client preparation" steps and everything is ok with the web browser in order to the Assistant to work properly. The problem is that I open the Software Transfer, the page loads just fine but shows me an error and I am not able to send the software to the system. When I use Firefox the Software Transfer does not even load and when I use IE the page loads and after a long time waiting for the page to load, the error is displayed:

"Connection to a switch is not possible!
Display log file for more information."

Do you guys know what this error means and how to fix it?

Check to be sure your Java stuff is up to date. I do mine in firefox but it can't be higher than version 51. I'm trying to remember other things I had to resolve when I was having that problem - do you current version of Comwin on your system? You can install it from Expert Mode in Assistant. I think the majority of my problems were Java or browser configuration issues - make sure you are not blocking popups or there are not other "securityty" related messages in your browser you're not noticing.

This problem of "connection to a switch is not possible" could also be caused by missing DNS config in the OS4K platform. It timed out trying to resolve something. cat /etc/resolv.conf to see if you have a DNS configured, and make sure you are on the latest Assistant hotfix. V7 R1 sounds about right for when this issue was 'popular'.

To clarify, you didn't need a working DNS to solve it, you just needed an IP address it could try to reach.

Thank you donb01, I've installed Firefox 51, Java 7, I've made the client preparation and now it "works" even on Firefox just like IE.

Thanks Moriendi, I've checked the resolv.conf file but it seems to be configured correctly. See the image attached that shows the configuration of my resolv.conf.

The problem persists. Assistant is currently running V7 R1.7.6

The Assistant HF could do with an upgrade, are you able to get latest HF ?

If you ssh to the Assistant and time getosversion -s, how long does that take to run ?

What is in the debug log for SWT ?

Moriendi,

It took approximately 4 minutes to run the time getosverion -s.
There are 2 HFs for Assistant I can apply, but how am I going to update since Software Transfer is not working?

And where can I find the logs for SWT?

Thanks for your help!

The good news is that you can SFTP an Assistant HF to the Assistant, /var/hf, and then activate it with SWA as normal. Can't do that with RMX HF though.

The bad news is that that command should take about 2 seconds to complete. I am sure you have a DNS problem. I think some changes were made to help this timeout issue but I can't remember when. It's worth putting the newer HF on if you have it but if you still have the problem, that command needs to complete faster.

My resolv conf has an additional options and timeout in it. You could also try setting DNS to 127.0.0.1 instead as a quick test? Remove your site DNS. You can edit DNS through normal Linux or edit the /var/opt/firstinstall/<yourinstallxml.xml>, and then run /var/opt/firstinst-netw.sh -s dns <filename>. That's from memory but firstinst file will give you a help if you run it with no parameters. First run it with "-w", that will recreate the install file with current running parameters. There is no downtime to change DNS you can do it on the fly.

Logs are off the top menu bar in SWT but doesn't matter - "4 minutes" is the bad news. Logs won't help now.

I appreciate your help Moriendi!

I've updated the Assistant, transfering the file via SFTP and it worked just fine.
I've changed the DNS configuration inside resolv.conf file, then the command time getosversion -s started working in less than 10 seconds and also Software Transfer. Now I'm able to update CSTA.

Just for information, as you said there are other parameters inside resolv.conf file. Below you can see how my resolv.conf file is configured at the moment and it is working:

nameserver 10.0.98.15
options timeout:3
options attempts:2

Thanks to everyone that helped in this issue!
