Software inventory not working for XP clients

I have installed sp 4 which now allows me to distribute software to XP clients. However when I look at the software inventory there are no entries! All none xp clients are ok. It appears no software scan is being conducted on xp clients.

I suspect this is another MS flaw but I can see no fix on technet - knowledgebase.

Any ideas

Have you also installed HRP1 for SMS 2.0 SP4 ?
I experience no probs whtsoever with XP-Clients

But:
Have you turned off the "FireWall-Function" in XP ?

The hardware inventory component may be in a stuck state, keeping the software inventory component from completing its installation. If that's the case (you'll see the component listed as "pending" in the control panel applet), use this method to kick it off:

Thanks for your help, however the software and hardware components are reading as installed in control panel and the firewall function is not enabled.

Any other ideas?

oh and I did install a hot fix for xp4 as well.
