Software Installer on MS Vista

Hi All,

I have downloaded UR5 and know I am trying to install the Mitel 3300 Software on MS Vista. The software installer worked fine however when trying to install the software I get the message "No FTP service running". And as such no files are copied to the inetpub directory.

I have confirmed that the FTP service is installed and running.

Has anyone got this working on Vista?

When you confirmed, may I ask how?

Unless you have accessed the FTP from another machine and done a read/write, you have not confirmed anything.

The service may be running but you need to set your IP address within IIS.
Go control Panel, administrative tools, Internet Information Services, then within the default FTP site put in the static ip of your laptop, ensure the service is running and away you go.

Thats what caught me out in the past anyway, the service was running but i hadnt set my lapotp ip to be the ftp server.

The Suggestion by james1982 usually is not required. If FTP is set up properly the application will automatically assume the current IP address of the device running it.

Have you had a chance to test Read/Write?

I find with XP it automatically picks up the IP address but not vista.
Ive seen this with all laptops and PCs running Vista from several different companies and several different engineers.

Vista just isint engineer friendly!!!!!!!!!

Can recomend

as FTP server. Small, doesn't require installation (has installer but will work after simple copying). Run it only when needed, no IIS installation. Windows firewall configuration or disabling required...

I'd like to also recommend GuildFTP. Setup much simpler than IIS + we don't then need to get dispensation from the IT security gods to load IIS.

I have found IIS to be paaiinnnful to use. Guild FTPd is what I have been using for a few years now - since pre-beta, and its what I recommend to everyone.

If you already have gone through the pain of failing with IIS, you will have to disable FTP services in IIS in order to run Guild or any other software.

I am a bit disappointed with Guild, however. They seem to have dropped development of the product. I just checked the site, they have a new post as of 21 August 2008. This is the first post since 26 June 2007! They are talking again about release 1.0 of Guild. Hopefully they will work on it more.

Bottom line regardless of the FTP service you choose to run.

If you use windows and especially with vista, you will need to turn off most of the security to get it running.

My recommendation is to turn everything you can think of off, Firewalls, virus checkers, Vista "enhanced" security, etc. Then get it running and then turn stuff back on until it breaks.

ftp does not run automatically you'll have to enable the service under services...I'm running vista and the software installer tool is working fine.
